Lemongrass cymbopogon citratus
Country of Origin: Guatemala
Botanical Name: Cymbopogon Citratus
Lemongrass can be very refreshing and relaxing and is commonly used as an insect repellent. It has a fresh, clean, citrus aroma and it's oil is yellow to amber in colour. Lemongrass oil helps to revive a tired mind and is a great tonic to revitalise the body.
Plant Family: Poaceae (Gramineae)
Method of Extraction: The oil is produced from the fresh, or partly dried, leaves of the grass.
Lemongrass is produced from two totally distinct botanical species of Cymbopogon. Citratus is found only under cultivation, particularly in Guatemala. Despite early origins in Sri Lanka and India, it is sometimes confusingly referred to as West Indian Lemongrass. The other type is Cymbopogon Flexuosus which is only cultivated in relatively limited areas of India, particularly Kerala.
