Equazen Eye Q Mumomega Pregnancy

Available In stock

EQUAZEN uses a unique marine fish oil that has four times more EPA than DHA. This allows the EPA to function better, and give it a more active role in helping to maintain the eye and brain in healthy functioning order.

EQUAZEN contains high quality marine and botanical oils. Here are a few of the key facts that you may want to know so that you – or your children – can take these oils with confidence.

Five facts about the Omega-3 component of EQUAZEN

  1. In EQUAZEN, the high EPA marine oil comes from small fish, specifically sardines and pilchards.
  2. The fish which is used in these oils is sourced from sustainable stocks.
  3. The oil used is independently tested for its Vitamin A and D content.
  4. For the high EPA oils, the harvest of the fish is during the few weeks of the year when these oils are highest, ensuring that the oils deliver a high natural source of EPA – this is important for the quality of this fish oil.
  5. The oils comply with stringent EC and WHO regulations with regard to dioxins, PCBs, heavy metals and other potential pollutants.

Mumomega Pregnancy

Sometimes it’s not always easy to get enough EFAs (essential fatty acids) from the diet, particularly if you don’t eat fish very often. Mumomega contains a blend of essential fatty acids aimed at supporting the dietary intake of particular fatty acids occurring during pregnancy.

Mumomega

There’s never been more a important time to help make sure your body is working at its best. We all need long-chain essential fatty acids, but research is indicating that the particular essential fatty acids DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and AA (arachidonic acid) are important during pregnancy. As well as having other roles in the body, they are required as building blocks for the cells that make up the eye and brain during pregnancy. So it is important that pregnant women have an adequate input from their diet.

equazen eye q mumomega® is a

Unique supplement combining specific Omega-3 and Omega-6 long-chain fatty acids that are important before, during and after pregnancy for both mother and baby. Up to 30% of the brain and eye is made of long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids. Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) has a structural role in the brain and in the retina. Foetal and infant development is characterized by a high level of formation of new cells. Long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids are an integral part of the membranes surrounding these new cells.

Supplementing with equazen eye q mumomega® is a convenient way to ensure input of these important nutrients, thereby helping to ensure the mother has an adequate intake.

DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) maternal intake contributes to normal development of the brain and eye of the foetus and breastfed infants. A daily intake of 200mg DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) is required in addition to the recommended daily intake of 250mg DHA(docosahexaenoic acid) & EPA (Eicosapentaenoic acid) for adults. This product provides 300mg DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and 42mg EPA (Eicosapentaenoic acid) daily.

Eating oily fish is good for you and your baby

The Department of Health recommends that most people should be eating more oily fish. Fish and shellfish are rich in protein and minerals, and oily fish is rich in Omega-3 essential fatty acids.

However, oily fish can contain low levels of pollutants that can build up in the body. For this reason there are recommendations for the maximum number of portions of oily fish we should be eating each week (a portion is about 140g). When you're trying for a baby, pregnant or breastfeeding eating fish is good for your health and the development of your baby, but you need to avoid some types of fish and limit the amount you eat of some others. The FSA (Food Standards Agency) guidelines suggest a maximum of two portions a week of oily fish including tuna, but not to eat shark, swordfish or marlin - because these fish contain more mercury than other types.

The mumomega formulation

Our challenge in making mumomega was to create a supplement that delivered a specific formulation of essential fatty acids for pregnant and lactating mothers and their babies.

The essential fatty acids we included in the formulation, are:

DHA, or Docosahexaenoic Acid. This is an Omega-3 essential fatty acid that is a component in the structure of cell membranes of the eye and brain. In fact, up to 30% of the dry weight of the brain is made up of Omega-3 and Omega-6 essential fatty acids, which typically comes from oily fish.
AA, or Arachidonic Acid. This is an Omega-6 essential fatty acid that can play both structural and functional roles in the brain. In the diet, AA is usually derived from meat and dairy products, as well as cereals.
EPA, or Eicosapentaenoic Acid. Another Omega-3 fatty acid,  EPA is thought to play more of a prominent role in the function of the established brain than the structural fatty acid DHA.
GLA, or Gamma Linolenic Acid. This Omega-6 essential fatty acid is known to also have anti-inflammatory actions, and may help to regulate hormonal balance.
So how do you get all of these nutrients into one formulation?

We opted for an oil specification that used high-grade marine and botanical oils to deliver the key Omega-3 and Omega-6 essential fatty acids. The Omega-3 source has been modified to concentrate the DHA to a very high level, as well as elevated amounts of AA. The Omega-6 source is virgin evening primrose oil. In terms of intake, we recommend that pregnant and lactating women take at least 300 mg of DHA a day. We also suggest infants take at least 100 mg of DHA a day. That’s why we developed Equazen eye q baby.

Before and after pregnancy

mumomega was developed to help ensure that you and your baby will receive high grade DHA and AA supplementation throughout the birth cycle. Each 750mg capsule will deliver 300mg of DHA. If you find it difficult to include an adequate amount of Essential Fatty Acids in your diet, take 1 capsule of mumomega per day with food.

Before conception

Everyone needs essential fatty acids (EFAs), but if you're planning to have a baby, it's even more important you make sure you are getting enough of these essential nutrients. If you are not getting adequate EFAs through your diet, taking just 1 capsule a day of mumomega will ensure that you are maintaining your intake. Taking essential fatty acids is still important if this is not your first pregnancy, to ensure you continue to maintain your essential fatty acid levels.

During pregnancy

After conception your body still needs essential fatty acids and as an expectant mother we recommend taking a minimum of 1 capsule per day to ensure you maintain your level of EFAs. The baby's demands for DHA and AA are higher during the 3rd trimester, which is a time of rapid brain development. The baby obtains its essential fatty acids from mum's stores, so an adequate intake is essential for her health too!

After delivery

Mother and baby's requirement for structural fatty acids continues even after delivery, so you can keep taking mumomega. If you're breastfeeding and struggling to get an adequate intake of EFAs through your diet, then continuing to supplement during this time helps ensure adequate levels of Essential Fatty Acids (DHA and AA) to your new born baby through your breast milk. Once breastfeeding finishes, you can maintain essential fatty acid supplementation with Equazen eye q baby.

The oils in mumomega

Before and after pregnancy

Equazen is a specialist supplier of Omega-3 and Omega-6 essential fatty acids made from high-grade marine and botanical oils. mumomega provides long-chain fatty acids andnatural antioxidants, but the formulation is otherwise free of any additives, flavourings or synthetic compounds.

We only use natural-form oils, keeping them in the form of triglycerides. Synthetic ethyl esters are not considered, as these substances are in a form that is less suitable for the body to absorb. The Omega-3 fish oil has been concentrated, but the Equazen process involves deconstructing the fatty acids, and then reassembling them into natural form triglycerides.

Pharmaceutical-grade Omega-3 Fish Oil

  • The source of our Omega-3 fish oil is tuna, which is harvested at specific times of the year to provide a particularly high level of DHA
  • The oil is concentrated using molecular distillation, leaving it in a free fatty acid form
  • The oil is then chilled and filtered, allowing removal of any excess saturated fats, and resulting in a pure clear oil
  • The free essential fatty acids are recombined into triglycerides, the most bio-available form, allowing maximum efficacy and absorption
  • The oil is 70% Omega-3 essential fatty acids, the majority being DHA, a key structural essential fatty acid that is part of the membranes of brain cells
  • The oil has an elevated level of AA, a structural fatty acid that, like DHA, is an important building block for brain cells
  • The oil has an elevated level of DPA, a 'link' fatty acid between EPA and DHA
  • Analysis at an independent laboratory proves that mumomega, is in full compliance with stringent EU/WHO regulations with regards to environmental toxins such as dioxins, PCBs and mercury.

Precautions The incidence of side effects associated with the use of Equazen eye q is rare. However, we would suggest that if a person intending to supplement has any medical condition, known allergy, or is on any medication, or if there are any other concerns, that your GP is consulted before taking the product. All the oils in Equazen eye q have been independently tested to ensure compliance with EU and WHO rules on purity. In some rare instances, taking the oils can cause nausea and loose stools, indicating that the body may be still adjusting to this new dietary input. If this happens, stop supplementation until the symptoms finish. Then you can start again, making sure that you take the supplement with meals.
